Red Dirt Derby THIS Friday...

USAC Wingless Sprints, Pure Stocks, Sport Mods and Micros on tap for Friday

By John Rittenoure, MEEKER, Okla. (September 10, 2018) - Wet conditions forced officials to cancel last Friday’s USAC Wingless Sprints of Oklahoma show at Red Dirt Raceway. But the good news is the USAC sprints will be back this Friday night for the Red Dirt Derby.

Series points leader Brett Wilson of Coweta, a previous winner at Red Dirt Raceway, suffered a blown engine when the series was here last on Sept. 2. He will looking to redeem himself and protect his points lead on Friday.

Wilson comes into the night with a 45 point lead over Cameron Hagin of Broken Arrow. Three-time winner Danny Smith of Sand Springs is in third just 63 points behind Wilson. Michael Tyre II of Kiefer and Sperry driver Casey Wills round out the top five.

Andrew Deal of Caney, Kansas was the winner here on Sept. 2. That feature went 50 laps and it was not until late in the race that Deal was able to finally get around race-long leader Tanner Conn.

Sunday a make-up race was run for the weekly portion from Friday’s show and a strong field of pure stocks and sport mods were on hand. Justin McBride of Oklahoma City battled to victory over a 20-car pure stock feature while Jack Baird of Norman advanced from eighth starting position to win the sport mod feature over a 25-car field.

Both drivers are expected back Friday when the pure stocks and sport mods return to action with the USAC sprints.

Tulsan Avery Goodman won the 600cc non-wing micro sprint feature Sunday. The non-wing micros will also be racing on Friday and will be joined to the winged restricted micro sprints.

Gate open on Friday at 6 p.m. Hot laps are scheduled for 7:15 with racing getting underway at 8.

Red Dirt Raceway is located on state highway 18 between Chandler and Shawnee. Exit I-44 at Chandler and follow highway 18 south. From I-40 take the highway 18 exit and head north through Meeker.
