USAC Non-Wing Sprints back for more on Friday
By John Rittenoure, MEEKER, Okla. (September 3, 2018) - Andrew Deal of Caney, Kansas and Oklahoma City racer Tanner Conn had fans on the edge of their seats Sunday evening at Red Dirt Raceway as the two continually swapped the lead in the USAC Non-Wing sprint 50-lap feature atop the Red Dirt Raceway quarter mile oval.
Conn was the early leader until Deal closed in midway through the race. After several laps of lead changes as the two swapped the lead back and forth in the turns, Deal finally pulled away in the final laps for the victory. Conn faded to fourth as Michael Tyre II and Joe Wood, Jr. got by for second and third.
A field of 29 competitors was on hand for the event and many will be back again Friday when the USAC sprinters return to Red Dirt Raceway.
Series points leader Brett Wilson, who has won here in the past, suffered a blown engine in his heat race and was not able to complete the show. However, Wilson is still leading the standings and will be looking to better his luck on Friday. Cameron Hagin of Broken Arrow holds down second over Danny Smith of Sand Springs. Tyre and Casey Wills of Sperry round out the top five in points.
Sport Mods, Hornets, and Pure Stocks will return to action on Friday and will be joined by the Non-Wing 600cc Micros.
Gate open on Saturday at 6 p.m. with racing getting underway at 8.
